First, it’s important to discuss, what are fad diets? Have you ever gotten sick of feeling unhealthy and fat and decided, “it’s time to drop 15 lbs right now!” We know you have, right?

The next thing that usually happens is that you decide you’re going to “eat clean” or “cut out all the carbs, sugar and starches”, “try a detox tea” or “cleanse” or do the “chocolate cake diet” because a friend did it and dropped weight fast!

Now THAT is what we call doing a fad diet, and fad dieting is an endless cycle of weight loss and weight gain. :/

The amount of times we wind up needing to lose 15 pounds and the amount of time we’ve tried these quick fix diets should make us understand that there is nothing sustainable or realistic about them!

But, we wind up in the same spot year after year before summer or before weddings, reunions and vacations.

We’re lazy and we want a quick fix.

Fad diets are diets designed for rapid weight loss.

When boiled down to their simplest form it involves a dramatic drop in calories that is disguised in a gimmick.

Guess what?

Fad diets lead to binging

The dramatic and unsustainable drop in calories is what produces the result! And the dramatic drop in calories is what we cannot sustain because we wind up so deprived, gain all the weight back (plus some) within a few months of diet end.

Isn’t it strange that we seem to latch onto every piece of info that the media puts out about nutrition?  “Coke can wear a hole through a penny in one day!” “Pesticides on fruits and vegetables are a leading cause of cancer!”

We latch on to the most obscure advice, like that’s the missing link for our diet success. 

We take immediate action to remove these things from our diet, and when it comes to losing weight, we’re completely fine with jumping to the most, extreme, most mythical diet out there without ever asking why, or how and without thinking, “what happens after I lose 15 pounds on this diet?”

You see, when it comes down to it, our brain needs a quick fix.

The funny part is that’s what usually needs fixing to lose weight and keep it off ……our brain!!

We need to change the way we look at things when it comes to weight loss.

The way we think will help in gaining some perspective and understanding as to how weight loss really occurs. It’s not complicated. It’s a caloric deficit!

It’s not about the pills, weight loss shakes, or bars.

You don’t need to eat nothing but organic fruit.

Not the gimmicky “taco diet, chocolate cake diet, or the whatever diet”.

It is simply consuming less than your body burns.

This equation is pretty simple, but to take things slow and sustainable takes a little background knowledge.

END THE CYCLE

Fad diets give the scale a bad name
